Double click on My Computer from your computer's desktop.

Double click on Dial-Up Networking.

Double click the Make New Connection icon.

Type in the name uSurfer and make sure the modem in your own computer is selected and click Next.

Type in the correct dial-up phone information for your area and click Next.

Click on Finish.

The icon uSurfer should have appeared in the Dial-Up Networking window. Click on uSurfer with the RIGHT mouse button and select Properties from the menu.

Verify the phone number is a local call for you. If you don't dial an area code for a local call then uncheck the box Use country code and area code. Then click on the Server Types tab. (It may be a button in front of the "Configure..." button instead of a tab at the top on earlier versions of Windows 95.)

Make sure the Type of Dial-Up Server: reads: "PPP: Windows 95 (or 98), Windows NT 3.5, Internet". Uncheck every item except for Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP. Then click on the TCP/IP Settings button.

Select Server Assigned IP Address. Select Server assigned name server addresses. Make sure Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network are checked. Click OK.

Close the Dial-up Networking window.

Double click on Control Panel.

Double click on Internet (or Internet Options).

Click on Connection tab, then click on Settings button. (Your version depending upon your computer, may be slightly different from the screen shot shown below. If so see the screen shot after the one below). Select the uSurfer icon and click Settings.


Enter your user name and password (lower case). Click OK to finish the setup. (Again your version depending upon your computer, may be slightly different from the screen shot shown below. If so be sure to choose uSurfer from the drop down list of available connections and enter your user name and password (lower case). Click OK to finish the setup).
